Temecula Instructor Joao Assis has been putting on a clinic in NOGI Jiu-Jitsu lately. On May 28th at the UFC Expo in Las Vegas, Joao went undefeated and claimed 3 division titles against tough competition such as Bill Cooper, Josh Barnett and Jeff Monson. In his final match with Monson, Joao ended the fight by submitting the snowman from the back via choke. This victory earned Joao a spot in the Tachi Palace "Worlds Best Grappler" tournament in Lemoore Ca. In the 32 man event Joao faced stacked competition and submitted his first three opponents. He then won against Bruno Bastos in the semi final and faced ADCC & World champion Xande Ribeiro in a powerhouse final match that saw Joao working a brutal leglock on the highly ranked veteran. After the buzzer it was Joao who emerged victorious and took home $10,000.00 for his work at the palace. Congratulations Joao! we'll see you in class.
